2009 Platform

• Restore honesty, integrity and trust in your government.Eliminate Hudson County political influence.  Deal with county and municipal officials on a professional, non-political basis.
• Eliminate unnecessary “consultants”, “lobbyists”, etc. who are paid thousands of our taxpayers’ dollars and, in turn, give thousands to the Democrats’ campaign war chest.
• Pass tough no-loophole ordinance banning pay to play, the insidious practice of giving contracts in exchange for campaign contributions. (Already accomplished!)  Follow up with ban on contributions from developers, and comprehensive ethics ordinance covering employees, appointees, volunteers and those doing business with the town.
• Work to pass an “Eminent Domain” ordinance protecting property owners from governmental taking of their property for private benefit.
• Go Green – formulate a comprehensive environmental policy to reduce municipal costs, help residents reduce costs by conserving and reduce the carbon impact by as many residents as possible.
• Employee protection – if they do their jobs they have nothing to fear.
• Yearly budget work sessions will be held; all council members will have an opportunity to participate.  The budget preparations will not be kept secret from any council member or the public.  Post the proposed budget on the town website for all to view.
• Appoint a citizens committee to recommend neighborhood improvement projects with the goals being to beautify neighborhoods, increase property values, encourage resident participation and improve quality of life.
• Eliminate unnecessary contracts, no matter how large or small.  Demand department head accountability. For example, our efforts have already saved taxpayers money by demanding the elimination of insurance covering office machinery already covered under a separate service agreement.  (Approx. $70,000 per year).
• Look to reduce costs through efficiency. Preview all contracts for waste and duplication.  Ensure best possible value for our tax dollars.
• Review all cash controls, checking accounts, town-issued credit cards, etc. Eliminate waste and improper use.
• Televise council meetings.
